Built for competitions that matter

Buff3r Bytes CTF is a competition platform, a persistent challenge lab, and a genuine learning system — built by Buff3r Bytes.

A scoreboard is the least interesting part of a CTF. What makes people better is understanding why a thing worked, seeing the path they took drawn out, and knowing what to attempt next. Buff3r Bytes is built around those moments.

The same engine runs public competitions, college rounds, corporate events, private invite-only games, and an always-on lab. Formats — jeopardy, scenario, investigation, king of the hill, attack & defense — are modules, so new ones slot in without re-architecting anything.

Hosting a competition. Administrators create a competition, attach a challenge set, choose a scoring model, set the clock, and open registration. A live dashboard, first-blood animation, and an end-of-event leaderboard freeze come as standard.

Authoring challenges. Challenges live in version control as challenge.yaml and are imported by the platform, which makes an entire event reproducible from a git tag. Attack graphs, hints, DNA, investigation kits and post-solve debriefs are all part of the spec.

Get in touch. Buff3r Bytes runs community nights and sponsored events. This is a demonstration deployment seeded with fictional challenges and players — every target here is imaginary.

What makes it different
  • Attack Graph

Players build the exploitation path visually, node by node, as they discover it.

  • Hacker Journey

A capability map instead of a bare XP number — skills move from unexplored to mastered.

  • Adaptive Difficulty

A per-player difficulty estimate from demonstrated performance, never from answers.

  • Investigation Mode

Evidence, artefacts and a timeline to build. A small SOC, not a text box.

  • Challenge DNA

A technical fingerprint per challenge for discovery and author coverage analysis.

  • Post-Solve Learning

Every solve becomes a debrief: technique, what happened, remediation, what next.

  • Scenario Mode

Multi-stage operations that chain challenges into a realistic campaign.

  • Dynamic Infrastructure

Ephemeral, isolated per-player instances with hard resource and network limits.

Break. Exploit. Learn. Repeat.
